Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

 

  • The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis provides Workforce Investment Act (WIA) youth services in St. Louis County and St. Clair County. 

  • The WIA program goal is to prepare participants for productive employment. 
  • By partnering with several county school districts, the Urban League’s WIA program serves over 600 youths ages 14-21 in St. Louis County. 
  • The program features both in-school and out-of-school components.
  • WIA services are designed to aid individuals who are:
    • Economically disadvantaged,
    • Unemployed due to downsizing, or
    • Lack competitive job skills.

  • One of the programs highlights is the successful School to Business Partnership with the WIA Youth Council and AT&T, which has received the Excellence in Education Award at the Governor’s Conference of Workforce Development.

  • The WIA program is funded by the US Department of Labor through the St. Louis County Department of Human Services and is located in the MO Career Center.
