Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

St. Clair County

 

  • The St. Clair County Division of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis operates the WIA program, a year round employment and youth development program for out-of-school low income youth between 19 and 21 years of age. 

  • The WIA program is designed to enrich the lives of program participants by working to achieve economic self-sufficiency through employment and job training.

  • Key components of the WIA program include:

    • Eliminating barriers to employment;

    • Providing links between academic and occupational learning;

    • Connecting participants to the job market; and

    • Preparing for post-secondary education.

  • WIA Program Outcomes include:

    • Academic and Skill Level Assessment;

    • Vocational Readiness; and

    • Hands on Work Experience.

     

  • The program serves residents of St. Clair County, Illinois and is funded through a grant from the St. Clair County Intergovernmental Grants Department.
