Since 1918, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, Inc. has a proud history of advocacy and involvement in public policy discussions at the federal, state and local levels. These efforts are focused on reducing barriers to full employment, quality education, economic mobility, and social justice affecting African Americans, other urban residents of color, and low-income communities.

Our Services Provide for Defined Client Needs

The number of people living in poverty is increasing nationally and poverty is disproportionately African American in St. Louis.

“Over the past thirty five years, the rise in wages and salaries in the low to middle of the income distribution was 11%.  The rise in wages and salaries at the top of the income distribution was 617%....the highest earners are capturing most of the gain in national income caused by economy wide productivity growth.”  Atlantic Monthly Sept 2006
