Chairman’s Welcome
It
has been my pleasure to serve as the Chairman of the Board of
Directors. In this role I have come to understand the great 89 year
legacy that is the Urban of Metropolitan St. Louis, a United Way member
agency. I am impressed by the community leaders that lend their
expertise and support to the Urban League movement. Our board, over 50
members strong, incorporates 5 CEOs, 7 university presidents, 8
community representatives and many other community leaders. We are all
committed to the vital service that this agency
offers the community like nationally recognized A+
Certification, financial literacy programming, and foreclosure
prevention. Our agency is not only vital to the community, the community
is also vital to us.
OUR VISION
The vision of the Urban League of
Metropolitan St. Louis is that African Americans and others in the St.
Louis Region will have the opportunity to create economically self
sufficient lives in communities that are flourishing with opportunity
and growth.
OUR MISSION
To empower African Americans and others
throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social
equality and civil rights. The Urban league will be the catalyst for
this change through advocacy, coalition building, program services, and
by promoting communication and understanding among different races and
cultures.

President/CEO’s
Greetings
The
Urban League movement has for 89 years struggled to empower communities
and change lives. Currently 105 national affiliates work together to
advocate and serve African Americans and others in the struggle for
equal rights in employment, housing, education and community outreach.
Most recently the National League was instrumental in accomplishing the
renewal of the Voting Rights Act. St. Louis is the #1 ranked affiliate
of our 105 partners in the National Urban League movement. We also
enjoy National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
certification of our Head Start program and the Better Business Bureau
seal of approval.
Locally our affiliate prioritizes five
service areas: Economic Empowerment; Educational Quality and Equality;
Meeting Families' Basic Needs; Civic Engagement and Social Justice; and
Sustainable Quality Services. We serve over 65,000 clients each year in
8 locations across the bi-state area and administers over $14 million
annually. We could not accomplish our mission without the community
support and the effort of our volunteers. Together with the National
Urban League, the St. Louis affiliate is excited about welcoming more
than 10,000 guests to St. Louis for the National Urban League Annual
Convention, July 25-28, 2007.
Thank you for visiting our website. We
hope you join us in catching the excitement that is the Urban League of
St. Louis.
